Morgan State University presents The Freedom, Love & Light Project MOTHER'S LAMENT So Many Names Unknown Soprano, Marquita Lister, Bass-baritone, Robert Cantrell, and The Mid-Atlantic Symphony, Julien Benichou, Conductor
This is a multi-media tribute to families who have lost loved ones at the hands of violence in Baltimore City and across the nation. The Freedom Love and Light Project seeks create unity, solidarity and focus-- through music, poetry, and visual arts--to sooth the souls of community members who have experienced tragic loss.
Two new works for orchestra, chorus and soloists will be premiered: "Songs of Love and Loss" with guest soloist, Robert Cantrell (bass-baritone) and "Mother's Lament" with guest soloist, Marquita Lister (soprano). The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Julien Benichou will perform the score. An all-male choral ensemble performs the choral arrangements. Also performing in the production are the Morgan State University Choir and the Singing Sensations Youth Choir.
The event is hosted by Mrs. Dorothy Johnson Speight, Founder and Executive Director of Mothers in Charge, Inc., a national non-profit organization, based in Philadelphia, whose mission is violence prevention, education and intervention for youth, young adults, families and community organizations. Other collaborators in the project are Sisters Saving the City, Survivors Against Violence Everywhere and Redeemed City of Refugees -- all organizations who help those who are coping with loss.
