Inspired by The New York Times September 30, 2006 article, "When
Soldiers Go to War, Flat Daddies Hold Their Place at Home" by Katie
Antoinette Nwandu's award-winning play, Flat Sam, tells the
story of an Army wife who brings life to the life-size picture of her
husband which is given to the families of deployed soldiers. The
cutouts called Flat Daddies or Flat Soldiers were to connect families of
soldiers in Desert Storm.
